About Us

The Visitation House, Inc. is led by an independent volunteer Board of Directors and employs a small staff in a private residential setting in western Volusia County. Aside from governance and strategic planning, members of the board actively participate on a day-to-day basis in applicant screening, resident coaching, training and mentoring, transportation to medical appointments and job interviews, coordinating volunteers, creating community awareness and outreach, grant writing and fundraising. The current Board represents both eastern and western Volusia County and serve terms ranging from one to three years. Our current annual operating budget is approximately $75,000 and our current capacity limit is six women concurrently.

Meet Our Board Members

Erin Kappiris, President

Erin Kappiris grew up in Queens, New York and moved to Florida as a teenager. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in Business Administration. Erin is married to Stan and they have four children and nine grandchildren. She has held management and finance positions in the healthcare, education, and technology fields, and currently works for Alstom Transportation as the project controller for the SunRail.

Erin is a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Daytona Beach and has volunteered for Visitation House for five years.

Jennifer Thompson-Truglia, Vice President

Jennifer Thompson-Truglia is a Florida native with three daughters, three grandsons and a granddaughter on the way. Jen currently partners with her husband Rob and her father purchasing properties that she actively manages and maintains. The property business has allowed Jen the flexibility to follow her passion, giving back to the community and sharing real-world advice in the hopes of changing the lives of women.

Jen served in various volunteer roles for approximately six years and served on the Board of Directors at the Pregnancy Crisis Center in Daytona Beach. She worked with underprivileged women in the early stages of pregnancy to assist them in finding resources, referrals for social services and medical care.

Jen joined the Visitation House in early 2019 as a mentor and soon after was invited to serve on the board of directors.

Angela Bryant, Secretary

Angela (Angie) Bryant hails from Louisiana, a true Cajun. One of seven children, the family moved to Florida in 1969. Angie attended Central Florida Career Institute and is certified as a Patient Care Technician. Angie met Butch, a Navy man, in 1984 and they were married in less than three months. Together they have raised four children and now have six grandchildren.

Angie operated a family daycare business for 15 years and has held a variety of administrative roles. She has been an active member of All Souls Catholic Church since 1989. She has worked for the Diocese of Orlando for the past 12 years and has been employed at St. Peter Catholic Church for five years. She enjoys reading and camping. Angie joined the board of Visitation House in 2023.

Jacquelyn Mosness, Treasurer

Jacquelyn (Jackie) Mosness was born in Lowell Massachusetts into an Air Force family and lived in several US cities. She graduated from Daytona State with an A.S. degree in Radio and Television Communications and Journalism. Jackie married early but raised two children as a single parent. Jackie ran a successful home daycare program and taught preschool for many years, earning an Early Childhood Education certificate. She also worked in office administration for a local OB-GYN office.

Jackie and her husband Brook have been married for 11 years, are active members of St. Peter Catholic church and have three beautiful granddaughters.

Jackie has volunteered for Visitation House for more than 10 years, starting as a mentor and joining the board of directors. Jackie served as President from 2019-2023.

Rae Brammer-Wilson

Rae Brammer-Wilson is a retired Licensed Mental Health Professional with a graduate degree from Rollins College.  Rae grew up in Iowa and lived in many places including Germany, where she met her Army Colonel husband of 26 years. Together they have seven children, twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Besides being a family therapist with the Army, Rae was previously the Clinical Director of Harbor House of Orlando, a certified Men’s Domestic Violence group leader in Orlando, Germany, and Augusta GA, and a private therapist.

Hon. Patrick Coggins Ph.D., J.D., LLD

Dr. Patrick C. Coggins, a native of Georgetown, Guyana is a distinguished professor at Stetson University, advisor to several cross-cultural organizations and a member of the Faculty Senate. He was the Jessie Ball DuPont Endowed Chair Professor from 1991 to 2011. He is Founder/Director of the Multicultural Education Institute and co-founded the Multicultural Students Council, the Caribbean Student Association and the Rotaract International Club at Stetson University. Dr. Coggins is an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church and serves as both a lector and sacristan. Dr. Coggins’ motto is that “All students and people should be judged not by the color of their skin, but rather, by their character and contributions to society.”

Maribeth Embras

Maribeth Embras is the oldest of seven children and grew up in several states including Delaware, where she lived for 45 years. She earned a dual Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Early Childhood Education and taught Kindergarten for 25 years. Maribeth and her husband Joe adopted a child from Catholic Charities. Maribeth is an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church and has been volunteering with Visitation House for six years.

Donna Evangelista

Donna Evangelista was born in Chicago, Illinois. In 1971, she and her husband Bruce and their four children moved to Florida, first to Ft. Lauderdale and then to central Florida in 1982.

Donna and Bruce are active members of the St. Peter Catholic Church community and both are dedicated volunteers for Visitation House. Donna has been on the Board of Directors for two years.

Maryalice Hopkins

Maryalice Hopkins was born and raised in Sayre, Pennsylvania. She attended Misericordia University and received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Following graduation, Maryalice moved to Baltimore, Maryland where her two girls were born and raised. Maryalice worked in Maternal-Child Nursing and Women’s Health for 39 years. Retiring in 2016, she and her husband Bob moved to Florida to be closer to family, including their grandson, James.

Maryalice is an active member of St. Peter’s Church and the Catholic Council of Women. She is also active in the Victoria Gardens community and the Victoria Gardens Women’s Club. Maryalice has been a volunteer at Visitation House for six years and a Board Member for five.

Marylou Mirino

Marylou Mirino is a founding member of the Visitation House. She was born in Brooklyn New York and married her husband Phil (1935-2016). The couple moved to Florida and opened and operated Mirino’s Pizza, a landmark eatery in DeLand. They have two children and four grandchildren. Marylou is an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church, the Right to Life organization, and the Republican Club.
