On Going Capital Campaigns

Learn more about our Van Campaign

Currently, Visitation House relies on volunteers and board members using their own vehicles when transporting residents to appointments (ex. Medical, employment, shopping for necessities). Transportation continues to be one of the biggest challenges at Visitation House, at this time we are requesting donations to purchase a 12-passenger van which could accommodate 8 pregnant women with their respective infants. Visitation House is requesting $45-$50k to cover the cost of a reliable used van, registration and other fees. With this transportation need  met, Visitation House will have resolved the issues of multiple trips shopping for necessities and allow the freedom of no longer being restricted to volunteer availability.

Learn more about our Sister Facility Campaign

In recent years we have seen needs change; nearly half of all applicants to our program have children. If a homeless pregnant woman has older children, due to size constraints, Visitation House is unable to house those children and the women must make the heart-breaking decision to place their children in alternate care until permanent housing is established or continue to live on the streets or tolerate abusive/unsafe living conditions. This devastating decision has moved us at  Visitation House to take on the mission of creating a home for these families! We are currently fundraising for the purchase of a “Sister Facility” which will expand the operations currently offered by Visitation House by providing housing to women (pregnant or not) and to their children.  We are seeking a facility/home able house 15 female head-household families.  The ideal property will have a large commercial kitchen and community dining area, several separate dedicated areas for training and community classes, a yard or land for recreation, a community garden and other areas for building life skills and self-sufficiency. The “Sister Facility” will maintain the same values and objectives of Visitation House, but will expand its reach to homeless women and their families, offering them the same support services to enable them to become self-sufficient when permanent housing is established.

Volunteer

For nearly 20 years, volunteers have been the lifeblood of the Visitation House. They share our story in the communities where they live, work, and socialize. Word of mouth is the greatest strategy to let women in need know we are here to help.  Volunteers also solicit donations for our Special Events and then staff those events. Others prepare grant applications. Volunteers work directly with our residents to help them finish their education, find a job, and reinforce those critical life skills they will need when they graduate from our program. Sometimes they just listen. Volunteers are always needed behind the scenes for facility maintenance and repair, office work, inventory and so much more. If you have some time to give, we’d love to hear from you!
